THE WAY IT SHOULD BE

Subject: May Caribbean Memo-2012

Dear Friends:

Here is a good example of how Puerto Ricans can and should be used in the service of the United States. In our opinion, this could be expanded and here’s why: they understand the importance for knowing a second language and culture.

First an example of what we’re talking about.

Puerto Rican–born Jose A. Rodriguez, Jr., led all U.S. counterterrorism operations and oversaw the use of procedures—including water boarding--that obtained vital intelligence to safeguard the nation from future attacks like the Sept. 11, 2001 New York City attack.

“The actions we took in the aftermath of 9/11 were harsh but necessary and effective,” he is quoted as saying in a number of publications and interviews.

Rodriguez worked 31 years for the Central Intelligence Agency [CIA] starting in 1976. Before retiring, he was Chief of Staff of the Counter Terrorism Center (CTC).

There the CTC on his order arrested three key terrorists: Abu Zubaydah, Khalid Sheikh Muhammed and Abu Faraj al-Libbi. They provided information needed to find Osama bin Ladin, the man who ordered the 9/11 attack.

Navy Seals killed bin Ladin on May 2, 2011, a year ago in Pakistan.

We write about this kind of thing for a reason, our interest in the Caribbean and Latin America.

And we think we've done that with our five novels. And a sixth one, entitled Al-Maghreb, The Barbary Lion, will be available shortly.

Current novels can be viewed on our WebSite.

First, go to http://www.natcarnes.com and then click News Center Publications to see not only the novels but also the Memos by clicking on ‘Caribbean Memo.’

Remember, we are interested in your comments, pro and con. In other words, that's how we learn.

And please let us know if you want your name taken off the Caribbean Memo list.

The Editors
